WASHINGTON — The Trump administration has intensified reviews of several policies enacted during former President Joe Biden’s administration, with federal agencies moving in recent weeks to reconsider or rescind regulations and enforcement priorities covering climate policy, workplace discrimination, artificial intelligence and immigration programs, according to government notices, court filings and agency statements.

The reviews are part of a broader effort by President Donald Trump’s administration to align federal policy with its stated priorities on regulation, economic growth and executive oversight. Officials have said the reviews are intended to reduce regulatory burdens and reassess policies adopted during the previous administration.

One of the most significant actions involves environmental regulations. In May, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission moved to withdraw a Biden-era climate disclosure rule that would have required publicly traded companies to report climate-related risks and certain emissions data. The agency said the proposed repeal was consistent with its core mission and followed legal challenges to the rule.

The administration has also targeted workplace enforcement policies. On June 5, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced that it was ending its 2023–2027 enforcement plan and replacing it with new priorities that focus on intentional discrimination cases, religious liberty protections and scrutiny of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Commissioner Kalpana Kotagal, the agency’s sole Democratic member, criticized the decision, while Republican-appointed officials said the changes reflected the commission’s current priorities.

In the technology sector, Trump signed an executive order on June 2 establishing a voluntary framework for reviewing advanced artificial intelligence models for cybersecurity and national security risks. The White House said the measure replaced what it described as a more restrictive regulatory approach adopted under Biden. Industry groups generally welcomed the voluntary structure, while some researchers and policy advocates argued stronger oversight may still be necessary.

Immigration policies implemented during the Biden administration have also come under review. Court records show that several Trump administration actions involving immigration benefits and prior approvals granted under Biden-era programs have faced legal challenges. Earlier this month, a federal judge blocked portions of those measures, finding that some exceeded agency authority.

Administration officials have defended the reviews as part of a government-wide effort to reassess existing regulations. “America must lead the world in AI without burdening innovators with unnecessary regulation,” the White House said in a June fact sheet outlining its technology policy.

Democratic lawmakers and advocacy groups have argued that some of the changes could weaken environmental, workplace and consumer protections. Republican officials and business organizations have largely supported the reviews, saying they could reduce compliance costs and increase flexibility for employers and industry.

As of June 9, several reviews remain ongoing, with additional rulemaking procedures, court challenges and public comment periods expected before final decisions are implemented.
