LONDON — UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called a snap general election on Monday after his government lost a confidence vote in Parliament, officials said.
The move follows a parliamentary vote in which the government failed to secure a majority, triggering the early election under UK constitutional conventions. Details of the exact timing of the vote and the margin of defeat remained unclear immediately after the announcement.
