NEW DELHI — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Afghanistan will host India in a three-match Twenty20 International series in New Delhi in September, with all three matches scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The fixtures will be played on Sept. 13, 15 and 17, according to details reported on Wednesday. The series will be staged in India despite Afghanistan being designated the host. Reuters reported that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) selected India as the venue for the series, reflecting Afghanistan's continued use of overseas venues for home matches.
The confirmation ends weeks of uncertainty over the dates, after the proposed series had been subject to possible changes because of India's crowded international calendar. Earlier reports had indicated that the Afghanistan matches could be moved if India proceeded with a planned tour of Bangladesh.
The series will be the first bilateral occasion on which Afghanistan officially hosts India on Indian soil. Afghanistan has previously used Indian venues, including Dehradun, Greater Noida and Lucknow, for home fixtures because it has not been able to stage regular international cricket in Afghanistan.
The two teams met earlier this year during Afghanistan's multi-format tour of India. The BCCI had announced a one-off Test beginning June 6 in New Chandigarh, followed by three ODIs in Dharamshala, Lucknow and Chennai.
The September T20I series comes ahead of the men's cricket competition at the Asian Games in Japan, which begins later that month. The timing provides both teams with an international T20I window before the continental event.
Afghanistan's most recent scheduled T20I matches came at the 2026 T20 World Cup earlier this year. India, meanwhile, will enter the series as the reigning T20 world champions after winning the tournament on home soil.
The first T20I is scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, followed by the second on Sept. 15 and the third on Sept. 17.
