TRUCKEE, Calif. — A bear and her cub were captured on video exiting an RV parked at a California campground over the weekend, according to footage shared with news outlets.
The incident occurred in Truckee, where Shanna Patton recorded the animals emerging from the vehicle, Storyful reported. In the video, bystanders can be heard shouting commands such as “Get out of there” and “Come on Bear” as the pair left the RV.
No injuries were reported in connection with the sighting. Officials with California wildlife authorities were not immediately available for comment on any response or relocation efforts.
Bears are common in the Truckee area, near Lake Tahoe, where campgrounds frequently advise visitors on proper food storage to avoid attracting wildlife. Black bears in California have become habituated to human areas in some regions, leading to occasional encounters.
The video circulated widely on social media platforms after being obtained by ABC News and other outlets on June 22 or 23. Bystanders in the footage appeared to use noise to encourage the bears to depart without physical confrontation.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife guidelines recommend that campers store food in bear-proof containers and never leave it in vehicles, as bears can break into cars and RVs in search of food. Details on whether food was left inside the RV or how the bears gained entry remained unclear.
Local campgrounds in the Sierra Nevada region routinely post warnings about bear activity, especially during summer months when food sources may be scarce in the wild.
As of Tuesday, there were no reports of further incidents involving the same bears at the campground. Authorities typically monitor such sightings and may haze or relocate animals that become too comfortable around humans.
