BURLINGTON, Conn. — The skeletal remains of three people were discovered inside a foreclosed home in Burlington on Sunday after the property was sold at auction, Connecticut State Police said.

State troopers responded to a home on Stanwich Lane around 4:46 p.m. on June 14 after receiving a report of human remains located inside the structure, police said. The new owner, who purchased the property “as is” at a foreclosure auction, made the discovery upon entering the residence.

Connecticut State Police confirmed the remains were skeletal and belonged to three individuals. The medical examiner’s office took possession of the remains, but has not yet publicly released details on their identities or the cause and manner of death.

Court records indicate a foreclosure was initiated on the property on Aug. 1, 2025, according to local media reports. The buyer, who acquired the home at public auction, had not yet taken full occupancy when the remains were found.

Authorities have not indicated any immediate evidence of foul play. “Details remain under investigation,” state police said in a statement. The discovery has prompted further examination of the home’s history and the circumstances surrounding the foreclosure.

An attorney for the buyer has filed a motion in court seeking the return of the buyer’s deposit, citing the discovery as potentially affecting the validity of the foreclosure judgment, depending on the identities of the remains and the time of death, according to published reports.

The case is being investigated as a suspicious incident, with the state medical examiner’s office assisting. Police have not released the names of the buyer or any potential prior occupants, and identification of the remains is pending.

As of Tuesday, no charges have been filed and the investigation remains active. State police said they continue to gather information about the property and its former residents.

The discovery has drawn local attention in the small Hartford County town, but officials have urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed without speculation. Further updates are expected as forensic analysis continues.
