SUNRISE, Fla. — The National Hockey League conference finals intensified this week as the remaining four teams battled for positions in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, with tightly contested series drawing national attention across North America.
The defending Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers faced the Carolina Hurricanes in a physical series marked by low-scoring games and strong goaltending performances, while the Edmonton Oilers met the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference finals.
League officials said attendance remained strong during the postseason, with television audiences also showing sustained interest as several games extended into overtime during the second and third rounds.
Florida entered the week with momentum after consecutive playoff victories, led by veteran forwards and disciplined defensive play. Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters on Monday that his team remained focused despite mounting pressure.
“We understand the challenge in front of us,” Brind'Amour said. “At this stage, every shift matters and every mistake can change a game.”
In the Western Conference, Edmonton continued to rely heavily on offensive production from captain Connor McDavid and forward Leon Draisaitl. Dallas, meanwhile, emphasized defensive structure and depth scoring after advancing through earlier playoff rounds.
