SILVERSTONE, England — Raul Fernandez won the British MotoGP at Silverstone on Sunday, leading from the opening corner to secure his first victory of the 2026 season, while championship leader Jorge Martin finished second to extend his advantage in the riders' standings.
Fernandez, riding for Trackhouse Aprilia, started second on the grid but moved ahead of Marco Bezzecchi at Turn 1 and quickly established a gap. By the third lap, he had set a new race lap record and was two seconds clear of the field, according to MotoGP.
Martin, who started from pole position, recovered from an unsettled opening phase to finish second, with Aprilia team-mate Bezzecchi taking third. The result produced an all-Aprilia podium and gave Martin a 31-point lead over Bezzecchi in the championship.
The race followed a difficult Saturday for Fernandez, who crashed out of the Sprint after starting from the front row. He responded by converting his strong qualifying position into a dominant Sunday performance, leading every lap after taking the holeshot.
Fernandez's victory was his second in MotoGP and his first Grand Prix win of the year. It also continued a notable Silverstone sequence, with the Spaniard becoming the 12th different winner in the last 12 British Grands Prix.
Behind the leading trio, Alex Marquez finished fourth as the first Ducati rider, followed by Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Marc Marquez finished seventh and remained 40 points behind Martin in the championship.
Ai Ogura, who had entered the weekend among Martin's closest championship challengers, suffered a race-ending crash on Lap 9 after dropping to seventh during the opening stages. His retirement cost him an opportunity to strengthen his position in the title fight.
The British Grand Prix was the 12th round of the season, leaving 10 rounds remaining in the championship. Martin retained the overall lead, while Fernandez's victory added another winner to an increasingly competitive 2026 MotoGP campaign.
