PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez’s record-setting scoreless innings streak ended at 50 2/3 innings on Wednesday night when he allowed a run in a start against the San Diego Padres, team officials and MLB records confirmed.

Sánchez, 29, entered the seventh inning of the Phillies’ 3-2 victory at Citizens Bank Park with the streak intact before surrendering an RBI single. The outing snapped what had been the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in Phillies franchise history and the fifth-longest single-season mark in Major League Baseball since 1893.

The streak began in late April and surpassed Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander’s 41-inning mark from 1911. It also stood as the longest by any left-handed pitcher in MLB history. Sánchez received a standing ovation from the home crowd as the streak concluded.

Manager Rob Thomson praised the pitcher’s performance. “He was outstanding again tonight. That streak was incredible,” Thomson said after the game.

The Dominican Republic native has anchored the Phillies’ rotation this season, contributing to the team’s competitive standing in the National League East. His scoreless run included multiple dominant outings, such as a stretch against the Giants and Guardians earlier in the campaign.

Sánchez’s performance drew comparisons to some of the game’s all-time greats. The streak ranked behind only a handful of historic efforts, including those by Walter Johnson and others from the early 20th century. Phillies fans and analysts highlighted the achievement as one of the franchise’s pitching highlights in recent decades.

The Phillies won the game with late home runs from J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber, securing a series victory. Sánchez departed with a no-decision but maintained a strong overall record.

Following the end of the streak, Sánchez is expected to make his next start on regular rest as the Phillies continue their season schedule. The team faces upcoming series, including matchups against divisional rivals. Further details on his next outing and the rotation remain in line with standard scheduling. No injuries were reported in connection with the start.
