WASHINGTON — The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $1 billion for Wednesday night’s drawing, making it the largest U.S. lottery jackpot offered so far in 2026, the Multi-State Lottery Association said.
The jackpot was raised from an earlier estimate of $975 million after officials reviewed final ticket sales from Monday’s drawing. The prize has an estimated cash value of $433.1 million before taxes, according to Powerball.
The jackpot ranks as the eighth-largest in Powerball history. The current run began after the jackpot was last won on May 2, when tickets sold in Florida and Texas split a $20 million prize. Wednesday’s drawing will be the 45th consecutive drawing in the current jackpot sequence, based on Powerball’s published results and jackpot history.
Powerball Product Group Chair Stephen Durrell, who is also executive director of the Kansas Lottery, said final ticket sales for Monday’s drawing exceeded expectations and were more than 86% higher than those for the previous Monday drawing. He said participation was increasing as the prize approached the billion-dollar mark.
The previous Powerball drawing on Monday produced no jackpot winner. The winning numbers were 6, 37, 54, 55 and 64, with a Powerball of 10 and a 3x Power Play multiplier, according to the lottery organization. Two tickets sold in California and Maryland matched all five white balls, while a Tennessee ticket matched the five white balls and used Power Play to win $2 million.
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9, Powerball said.
The jackpot's advertised $1 billion value represents an annuity paid in 30 graduated installments over 29 years. A jackpot winner can instead choose the estimated $433.1 million lump-sum cash option, with both amounts subject to taxes.
The drawing is scheduled for 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from the Powerball draw studio in Florida. It will be broadcast by television stations across the country and streamed on Powerball.com.
