LOS ANGELES — Organizers and local officials preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles have emphasized themes of international unity and cultural exchange as the city hosts matches and related events, highlighting efforts to welcome visitors from around the world during the tournament.

The Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee said in recent weeks that planning for the event has focused not only on stadium operations and transportation but also on community engagement and international outreach. Officials have described the tournament as an opportunity to bring together fans from different countries through sport and cultural activities.

“The United States will welcome the world to Los Angeles,” organizers said ahead of the opening ceremony, describing the event as a celebration of football, music and international culture. Tournament organizers said the opening festivities were designed around the idea of a “shared heartbeat” connecting supporters across borders and time zones.

Los Angeles hosted the first U.S.-based World Cup match on June 12, with opening events featuring performers from several countries and drawing fans from across North America and beyond. FIFA and local organizers said the ceremonies were intended to underscore the tournament’s global character and the cooperation among the United States, Canada and Mexico as co-hosts.

City and county authorities have also coordinated security, transportation and hospitality plans as large numbers of visitors arrive for matches. On June 1, Los Angeles County officials outlined public safety measures and said local, state and federal agencies were working together to support the tournament. “Los Angeles is ready to shine on the world’s biggest stage,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said during a briefing.

Host Committee Chief Executive Kathryn Schloessman said preparations extend beyond the matches themselves, including fan events and community programming throughout the region. Organizers have promoted activities intended to connect residents with international visitors and celebrate the diversity of the Los Angeles area.

The World Cup comes as Los Angeles continues preparations for other major international events, including the 2028 Olympic Games. Officials have said lessons learned from hosting global sporting events are being incorporated into transportation, operations and public safety planning.

As of Thursday, Los Angeles remained scheduled to host additional World Cup matches through July. Organizers said preparations and fan engagement programs would continue throughout the tournament as teams and supporters from multiple continents gather in the city.
