MIAMI — Social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami by the U.S. Marshals Service as British authorities seek their extradition to face expanded charges including rape and sex trafficking, according to U.K. prosecutors and U.S. officials.
The U.K. Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had authorized additional charges against the brothers involving four more alleged victims, bringing the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven. The new allegations relate to offenses said to have occurred between 2010 and 2017.
The CPS said Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 further charges related to alleged indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces additional charges including two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
British prosecutors said they are seeking the brothers' extradition to face both the original charges and the newly authorized counts. The U.S. Justice Department confirmed the extradition process is underway, while the brothers are expected to appear before a federal court in Miami.
The Tate brothers have denied wrongdoing. Their attorney has criticized the prosecution and said the allegations are unfounded. Criminal proceedings remain active, and the CPS has reminded the public that the defendants are entitled to a fair trial.
As of publication, the brothers remained in U.S. custody pending extradition proceedings. Further details are expected through the U.S. and U.K. courts.
