SEOGWIPO, South Korea — Bayern Munich opened the South Korean leg of their 2026 Audi Summer Tour on Tuesday with a preseason friendly against K League 1 side Jeju SK at Jeju World Cup Stadium, as head coach Vincent Kompany continued preparations for the upcoming German season.
The match marked Bayern's first fixture in Asia this summer and the first of two Audi Football Summit friendlies during the tour. The Bundesliga champions are also scheduled to face Premier League club Aston Villa in Hong Kong on Aug. 7 before returning to Europe for the remainder of their preseason program.
The South Korea stop formed part of Bayern's 10th annual Audi Summer Tour, reflecting the club's continued commercial and sporting engagement in Asia. The visit also brought defender Kim Min-jae back to his home country, with the South Korea international among the players attracting local attention ahead of the match.
Kompany had said before the fixture that preseason remained focused on building fitness and integrating players despite the commercial commitments that accompany overseas tours. Several first-team regulars remained unavailable following international duty or recovery programs, leaving the coaching staff to continue evaluating younger players and squad options during the exhibition schedule.
Ahead of the game, Jeju SK head coach Sérgio Costa described the occasion as an important opportunity for his club and spoke warmly about Kim, whom he previously coached while serving on South Korea's national team staff. Costa praised the defender's qualities and said he looked forward to seeing him on the pitch again.
Kompany also attended a K League match on Jeju Island before Bayern's friendly, saying he had been impressed by the league's tactical organization and technical quality despite difficult playing conditions. His observations came as Bayern prepared to face domestic opposition during the middle of the Korean club season.
Bayern entered the contest after opening preseason with a defeat to SV Wehen Wiesbaden before continuing preparations with further friendlies scheduled later this month, including matches against RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup before the Bundesliga campaign begins.
At the latest confirmed stage of Tuesday's match, Bayern held a 2-1 halftime lead over Jeju SK, according to live match coverage.
