PHNOM PENH — Cambodia’s national upper secondary school examinations, known as the Bac II, concluded nationwide on Tuesday after two days of testing involving more than 151,000 candidates, the Education Ministry said.
The examinations were held on Aug. 10 and 11 at 244 examination centres across the country, according to figures released by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. Of the 151,238 candidates registered for the 2026 examination, 84,735 were female students.
The Bac II examination is the country’s national assessment for Grade 12 students and is a key requirement for obtaining the Cambodian upper secondary school diploma and progressing to higher education.
The ministry said the examinations were conducted in an orderly manner across the country as students completed their final papers. Cambodian media reported that candidates left examination centres after the final sessions, while education officials continued monitoring the process.
Authorities had taken additional measures to safeguard the integrity of this year’s examinations. About 5,000 independent observers were deployed to examination centres to monitor procedures and help prevent irregularities, according to reports citing education authorities.
The examinations also faced scrutiny over the use of electronic devices. Cambodianess reported that several candidates and examination committee members were caught in connection with smart-device violations during the 2026 examination. The cases were reported as part of the authorities’ efforts to enforce examination rules.
The completion of the examinations moves the process to the marking and results stage. The Education Ministry has said the results are expected to be announced on Sept. 2, according to a report published after the examinations concluded.
The 2026 examination follows Cambodia’s continuing efforts to maintain standardized national testing for upper secondary students, with authorities emphasizing examination discipline and oversight.
For students who completed the tests, the next officially confirmed milestone is the publication of the examination results in early September. Until then, the ministry’s assessment and verification procedures will determine the final grades and diploma outcomes.
