INDIO, CALIFORNIA — Music festival organizers said David Byrne is scheduled to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2026, and space weather agencies have issued alerts for potential aurora borealis activity this week, but Byrne is not listed as a festival headliner on official lineup announcements and any direct link between the geomagnetic activity and visible auroras over the festival site remains unclear.

The festival, set for April 10–19 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, is expected to feature a wide range of artists across two weekends. Official lineup postings from Goldenvoice list performers including Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G as headliners, with Byrne among many other artists slated to appear.

Separately, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other space weather monitors have forecast geomagnetic storm conditions that could produce auroral displays at higher latitudes. A NOAA geomagnetic storm watch issued for March 29–30 calls for G1–G2 level activity resulting from a coronal mass ejection associated with a recent M‑class solar flare.

The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center said in a statement that “moderate geomagnetic storm conditions” were expected to reach Earth’s magnetic field and could make aurora visible along the northern horizon in parts of the continental United States close to the Canadian border.

It is not typical for aurora borealis sightings to be visible as far south as Southern California, and festival organizers, NOAA and local authorities have not announced any official forecasts tying aurora visibility to the Coachella site. Conditions affecting aurora visibility include the strength of the geomagnetic storm and local atmospheric conditions, NOAA said.

Byrne, the former frontman of the band Talking Heads and a solo performer with a career spanning several decades, is scheduled to appear on the festival’s artist roster. While many attendees and fan communities have highlighted his presence in social media discussions about the event, official promotional materials identify headliners separately.

A NOAA representative, speaking on background, said the agency’s alerts are designed to inform the public about potential space weather impacts and possible auroral activity, but did not make predictions about specific geographic visibility at lower latitudes such as Southern California.

At this stage, festival schedules are on track for their announced April dates, and space weather agencies continue to monitor solar activity for updates on geomagnetic conditions.
