PHILADELPHIA — FIFA Fan Fest in Philadelphia closed early on Monday, June 22, due to severe weather conditions, with organizers citing safety concerns as rain and storms moved through the area, officials said. The event at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park was closed for the remainder of the day, according to FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia officials.
The closure came as the Philadelphia region faced forecasts for heavy rain, thunderstorms and potentially damaging winds. The National Weather Service warned of severe weather risks in the area, including heavy downpours and possible flash flooding, according to local weather reports. Organizers did not provide details on whether any activities would be rescheduled following the closure.
FIFA Fan Fest, officially known as the FIFA Fan Festival, has been operating at Lemon Hill as a public gathering space during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring match screenings, entertainment and cultural programming, according to Philadelphia tourism officials. The festival is among the public fan events connected to Philadelphia’s role as a host city during the tournament.
The weather disruption also affected other World Cup-related activities in the city. Officials delayed stadium gate openings for the France-Iraq match at Philadelphia Stadium, with organizers monitoring conditions and following safety procedures related to severe weather and lightning risks.
Monday’s closure was the second weather-related disruption at the Philadelphia Fan Festival in less than a week. The venue also closed earlier on Thursday, June 18, because of high winds, after FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia announced the shutdown on social media.
“FIFA Fan Festival will close for the remainder of Monday,” FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia said in an announcement shared on social media, according to local media reports. Officials have not indicated that the closure was related to anything other than weather conditions.
The City of Philadelphia has previously advised visitors attending World Cup events to monitor weather updates and prepare for summer conditions, noting that the region can experience severe storms during June and July.
As of Tuesday, June 23, details on any additional weather-related changes to the FIFA Fan Festival schedule remained unclear. Organizers continued to provide updates through official channels regarding event operations.
