LOS ANGELES — Hulu has renewed the dystopian drama series “The Testaments” for a second season, the streaming service announced on May 20, 2026.
The renewal comes as the first season approaches its finale, which is scheduled to air on May 27. The series, a sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale” based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel of the same name, premiered on April 8, 2026, with the first three episodes.
Hulu said the show has surpassed 45 million hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+ since its debut. Viewership has grown week to week during its 10-episode first season.
“The Testaments” follows the next generation of young women in Gilead, including Agnes (played by Chase Infiniti) and other characters navigating life in the dystopian society. Ann Dowd reprises her role as Aunt Lydia, with Elisabeth Moss serving as an executive producer.
In a statement, Hulu executives highlighted the series’ strong performance and audience momentum. “We are thrilled to continue this story,” a representative said, according to reports from multiple outlets covering the announcement.
The series is created by Bruce Miller, who also developed “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Production companies include MGM Television and 20th Television.
Details about the second season, including cast, production timeline and premiere date, remain unclear. Industry reports indicate no specific release window has been confirmed, with some speculation pointing toward a potential 2027 debut, though Hulu has not provided official information on timing.
“The Testaments” holds an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on early reviews. The season finale airs Wednesday night on Hulu in the United States and on Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers.
This marks the latest expansion of Hulu’s “Handmaid’s Tale” universe, which concluded its original series run prior to the launch of this sequel. No further production updates were available as of May 27.
