LOS ANGELES — Major Hollywood film studios have unveiled their summer 2026 release schedules, highlighting a slate dominated by franchise films, sequels and high-profile productions as the industry seeks to attract audiences during the traditionally important summer movie season.

Among the most prominent releases announced by studios are Lucasfilm’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ “Supergirl,” Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Moana,” according to studio announcements and promotional materials released in recent weeks.

Studios have promoted the lineup as one of the strongest theatrical seasons in recent years, with major releases scheduled from May through August. Industry calendars published by entertainment outlets show a mix of superhero films, animated features, science-fiction projects and literary adaptations.

Disney said its summer strategy centers on three major theatrical releases: “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” “Toy Story 5,” and “Moana.” In a statement released by the company, Chief Marketing and Brand Officer Asad Ayaz said, “Disney Blockbuster Summer brings together the best of Disney storytelling and experiences,” as the company ties film releases to its broader entertainment businesses.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios are scheduled to release “Supergirl” in late June, while Sony is preparing the latest installment in its Spider-Man franchise for a July debut, according to published release schedules.

The season also includes films from established directors. Entertainment industry previews indicate that filmmaker Christopher Nolan is set to release “The Odyssey,” while Steven Spielberg is returning to science fiction with “Disclosure Day.”

Analysts and industry observers have noted that the concentration of major releases reflects studios’ continued emphasis on theatrical events and recognizable intellectual property. The summer period remains a key revenue window for exhibitors and distributors despite ongoing competition from streaming platforms.

Recent corporate developments have also reshaped the entertainment landscape. Paramount’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros., announced earlier this month, is expected to alter competition among major studios as companies seek scale in a rapidly evolving media market, according to Reuters reporting.

As of Monday, studios continued promotional campaigns ahead of upcoming premieres, with theatrical releases scheduled throughout the summer. No significant changes to the announced release calendar had been reported.
