LONDON — Major music festivals across Europe, North America and Asia are launching their summer performance series this month, with organizers opening multi-day events featuring international artists, outdoor concerts and cultural programming as the peak festival season begins.
Several of the year's largest music gatherings are either underway or scheduled to start in the coming weeks. Organizers say the events are expected to attract audiences from around the world and showcase a wide range of musical genres, from rock and pop to electronic and world music.
In Britain, the annual Meltdown festival at the Southbank Centre opened its 2026 edition this month under the artistic direction of Harry Styles. The festival, running from June 11 to June 21, features performances across multiple venues and includes artists from electronic, jazz, pop and experimental music traditions. Styles, announcing the lineup earlier this year, said the event would bring together established performers and emerging acts. “There are some incredibly unique, one-of-a-kind performances planned,” he said in a statement released by organizers.
In the United States, the 2026 edition of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival concluded on June 14 after four days of performances in Tennessee. Organizers said the festival featured headline appearances by Skrillex, Noah Kahan, The Strokes and RÜFÜS DU SOL, alongside dozens of other performers across multiple stages. Festival organizers described the event as one of the country's largest camping music festivals.
Attention is also turning to summer festivals scheduled later in the season. Organizers of Lollapalooza announced a lineup featuring artists including Charli XCX, Tate McRae, Lorde and JENNIE. The Chicago event is scheduled for late July and early August and is expected to feature more than 100 performers, according to organizers.
Elsewhere in Asia, the Rainforest World Music Festival is set to begin on June 26 in Malaysia's Sarawak state. Organizers said the three-day event will bring together international and regional performers under the theme “Regenerations: Roots & Rhythms,” combining concerts with cultural workshops and exhibitions. The festival has grown from a small regional gathering into an internationally recognized event, according to organizers.
Festival organizers across regions say this year's events continue to emphasize live performance experiences and international artist participation. Industry groups have noted sustained demand for outdoor concerts and destination festivals following strong attendance figures reported by many events in recent years.
As of Monday, ticket sales and final preparations were continuing for several major festivals scheduled through July and August. Organizers said additional artist announcements and programming details are expected to be released as the summer season progresses.
