PARIS — Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine defeated compatriot Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 on Tuesday to reach the French Open semifinals.

Kostyuk, the 15th seed, advanced to her first Grand Slam semifinal by winning the all-Ukrainian quarterfinal on Court Philippe-Chatrier. The victory guarantees a Ukrainian player in the women's singles semifinals at Roland Garros for the first time in the Open era.

The match lasted one hour and 49 minutes. Kostyuk took the opening set 6-3 before Svitolina, the seventh seed, leveled the contest by winning the second set 6-2. Kostyuk then dominated the decider, breaking early and closing out the match 6-2.

Kostyuk reached the quarterfinals after upsetting four-time champion Iga Swiatek in the fourth round. She entered the tournament undefeated on clay in 2026 and extended that streak with the win over Svitolina.

Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals with a comeback victory over Belinda Bencic. The experienced Ukrainian had been seeking to complete a career set of Grand Slam semifinals.

Both players are among a small group of Ukrainian women to have reached Grand Slam quarterfinals. Their meeting marked only the second time two Ukrainians faced off at that stage of a major.

Kostyuk said after her fourth-round win over Swiatek that she was happy with her form and consistency on clay this season.

The winner of Kostyuk's semifinal will face the victor of the other half of the draw. Details of her next opponent remain to be determined following Tuesday's other quarterfinal results.

Kostyuk, 23, has now won multiple matches in Paris for the first time in her career. Svitolina, a former top-ranked player, has reached the later stages of majors on multiple occasions but fell short in her bid for a deeper run in Paris this year.

The French Open continues with semifinals scheduled for later in the week.
