PARIS — Mirra Andreeva advanced to the French Open semifinals on Tuesday after defeating Sorana Cirstea in straight sets in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

The eighth-seeded Russian won 6-0, 6-3 against the 18th-seeded Romanian on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Andreeva, 19, reached the last four at the clay-court Grand Slam for the second time in her career, having previously done so as a 17-year-old in 2024.

Andreeva dominated the opening set, breaking Cirstea multiple times to secure a bagel. She maintained control in the second set, converting key opportunities as Cirstea, 36, struggled to find consistency on her farewell run at the tournament. The match lasted under an hour.

"I tried to stay focused and play my game," Andreeva said after the match. "It's always tough against experienced players like Sorana, but I was happy with how I handled the important moments."

The victory extends Andreeva's strong form in 2026. She entered the quarterfinals having dropped just one set in the tournament and built on her fourth-round win over Jil Teichmann.

Cirstea, playing in her first French Open quarterfinal since 2009, had reached the stage by defeating Wang Xiyu in the previous round. Her run marks a notable late-career highlight on the surface where she has historically found success.

Andreeva, who turned professional in recent years and has climbed into the top 10, has now compiled a significant number of wins this season. Her path to the semifinals comes amid a women's draw that has seen several top seeds exit earlier, including defending champion Iga Swiatek, who was upset in the fourth round.

Details on her semifinal opponent were not immediately available as other quarterfinal matches continue. The 2024 semifinalist will aim to go one step further this year in her bid for a first major title.
