LOS ANGELES — A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to force his way into the Los Angeles home of pop star Sabrina Carpenter, prompting the singer to seek and obtain a temporary restraining order against him.

The incident occurred on May 23, when William Applegate, 31, allegedly trespassed through a neighbor's property, approached Carpenter's front door in the Hollywood Hills and tried to open it, according to court documents and police reports. Security confronted him, and Los Angeles police arrested him on suspicion of criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor.

Carpenter filed for a civil harassment restraining order on May 29, which a Los Angeles County court granted temporarily on June 1 or 2. Court filings describe the encounter as "deeply alarming" and part of a pattern of uninvited appearances at her residence dating back to at least April.

"I am in fear of what he may do if he is not restrained by this Court," Carpenter stated in a declaration filed with the court.

Applegate allegedly claimed he knew Carpenter and that she was expecting him during the confrontation with security, documents show. After his arrest, he reportedly returned to the area on subsequent days, parking outside the property and continuing to watch it, according to the singer's account.

The case highlights security concerns for high-profile entertainers. Surveillance footage from a Ring camera captured elements of the May 23 incident, which Carpenter's legal team submitted as evidence. Applegate was also accused of striking a security guard during the encounter.

Los Angeles police submitted the case to the city attorney's office for review of potential charges. Applegate is scheduled to appear in criminal court on June 18 in connection with the trespassing arrest.

A follow-up hearing on the restraining order is set for June 17 to determine whether it will be extended. Details regarding any additional charges or Applegate's full background remain subject to court proceedings.
