NEW YORK — Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, announced on Monday that she is launching a new multimedia production company, 926 Productions, and has entered a first-look television deal with Amazon Studios.
The venture marks a significant expansion of the 44-year-old athlete’s business portfolio, which already includes the venture capital firm Serena Ventures. According to a statement released by her representatives, 926 Productions will focus on developing scripted and unscripted projects, aiming to elevate female and diverse voices in the entertainment industry.
“With the launch of 926 Productions, we aim to elevate female and diverse voices through content that speaks to everyone,” Williams said in a statement. “I’m so excited to begin this next chapter of my career.”
The company’s launch coincides with the appointment of Caroline Currier, a former executive at a major studio, as president. Currier will oversee day-to-day operations and development. Williams’ foray into production follows the critical success of King Richard, a film about her father that was nominated for six Academy Awards. She served as a producer on that project.
The announcement comes amid a broader professional resurgence for Williams. On Monday, she also confirmed her return to professional tennis after a nearly four-year hiatus. She has accepted a wild-card entry to play doubles at the Queen’s Club grass-court tournament in London, scheduled to begin next week . The WTA Tour confirmed her entry, stating she will compete with a partner to be announced.
Williams has not played a competitive match since the 2022 U.S. Open, where she signaled an “evolution” away from the sport. She re-entered the anti-doping testing pool in February, a mandatory step for athletes seeking to compete again.
Officials at Amazon Studios confirmed the first-look deal, which grants the studio first rights to acquire television projects developed by Williams and 926 Productions. Details regarding initial projects for the company remain unclear.
