DETROIT — Stellantis is recalling more than 1 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles in the United States over a potential fire risk linked to an electrical issue in the power steering system, the automaker and federal regulators said.

The recall affects about 1.08 million model-year 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and Gladiator trucks, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Stellantis is urging owners to park the vehicles outside and away from structures until the issue is fixed.

The problem involves wiring for the electric hydraulic power steering pump, where a loose electrical connection can overheat and potentially ignite nearby combustible materials, even when the vehicle is parked with the ignition off. Stellantis said it is aware of at least 72 fires possibly tied to the issue and one reported injury.

“Owners are advised to park outside and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall remedy is completed,” NHTSA stated in its alert. No remedy is currently available, but the company said it is working to develop one and anticipates a solution by July.

The recall covers vehicles in the U.S. and additional units internationally, bringing the worldwide total to more than 1.3 million. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the wiring harness and power steering pump when parts become available, with notifications expected to begin around July 9.

Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, said in a statement that it is “working diligently” to address the matter. Owners can check their vehicle identification numbers on the NHTSA website or Stellantis recall portal starting June 11 for confirmation of involvement.

This is the latest in a series of recalls for Jeep vehicles in recent years involving various safety concerns. NHTSA has been monitoring fire-related issues across multiple models and manufacturers.

Consumers with questions can contact Stellantis customer service or visit authorized dealerships. The company emphasized that the risk is rare but encouraged prompt action. Details on the exact number of affected vehicles outside the U.S. remain subject to ongoing reporting.
