MIAMI — Social media influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami after British prosecutors announced a new series of criminal charges and confirmed they would seek the brothers' extradition to the United Kingdom, adding a new chapter to legal proceedings spanning multiple countries.
The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed the arrests on Saturday, saying the brothers were taken into custody on a sealed warrant. Officials did not immediately disclose details of the warrant, while British authorities said the arrests were linked to an expanded criminal case authorized by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
The CPS said the latest charges stem from evidence submitted by Bedfordshire Police involving four additional alleged victims. Prosecutors said Andrew Tate faces new allegations including rape, assault, trafficking for sexual exploitation and offenses involving indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate faces additional allegations including rape, sexual assault and trafficking-related offenses. The new case increases the total number of alleged victims in the British investigation to seven, according to prosecutors.
The brothers have denied all allegations against them. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, described the new British charges as an attempt to undermine legal actions the brothers have pursued in the United States and said he intended to challenge the proceedings.
Andrew and Tristan Tate, dual U.S.-British citizens, moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022 during an investigation into allegations of human trafficking and related offenses. The brothers denied wrongdoing, and Romanian proceedings were delayed after courts identified procedural irregularities, although investigations there have remained active.
British authorities have previously secured arrest warrants for the pair over separate allegations dating back to 2012. Bedfordshire Police said investigators have continued working with the CPS and international law enforcement agencies, resulting in dozens of additional charges being authorized as the investigation expanded. Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas urged the public not to speculate while legal proceedings continue.
The brothers are expected to appear before a federal court in Miami as U.S. authorities begin extradition proceedings. British prosecutors said they will continue seeking their return to the United Kingdom, while the broader legal matters involving the brothers remain active in multiple jurisdictions.
