West Indies elected to bat after winning the toss and reached 239 for five at stumps on the opening day, with Justin Greaves finishing unbeaten on 64 and helping steady the innings after Pakistan made regular breakthroughs. Roston Chase contributed 36 before his dismissal, while Pakistan's bowlers kept the scoring in check for much of the day.
The match follows West Indies' 90-run victory in the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, where fast bowler Jayden Seales claimed a five-wicket haul in Pakistan's second innings to secure a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Pakistan were dismissed for 120 while chasing 211 despite a fighting effort from Shan Masood, who scored a first-innings century.
Pakistan entered the second Test without Masood after the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed he fractured the index finger on his left hand during the first Test. The board said the left-handed batter is receiving treatment and that his availability for Pakistan's upcoming Test series in England will depend on his recovery.
The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, making the outcome significant for both teams' standings. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, the second Test is scheduled to run from Aug. 2-6 at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.
Pakistan made changes to their batting order in response to Masood's absence, while West Indies retained confidence after their opening-match success. The home side's middle order again provided stability, with Greaves anchoring the innings into the closing stages after earlier wickets prevented West Indies from building sustained momentum.
Play will resume on the second day with West Indies aiming to build a substantial first-innings total, while Pakistan will look to wrap up the remaining wickets quickly and keep themselves in contention to level the series.
