MADRID — Spain’s top women’s football league, Liga F, has received a €55 million investment proposal from Gasol16 Ventures, the investment vehicle led by former NBA star Pau Gasol, the league announced this week.

The proposal, described by Liga F as potentially the largest private investment ever received by a women’s football league, aims to professionalize the competition’s commercial model and accelerate its internationalization. It will be submitted for approval by club representatives at an extraordinary assembly scheduled for June 29.

Gasol16 Ventures is leading the offer alongside other investors. According to Liga F’s statement, the investment would target the development of commercial rights, international positioning and the long-term growth of the league and its 16 clubs.

“Gasol16 Ventures, the investment vehicle of Pau Gasol, leads together with other investors a proposal of 55 million euros in Liga F and its clubs to professionalize its commercial model and accelerate its internationalization,” the league said in the announcement.

The former basketball player, who enjoyed a successful career in the NBA with teams including the Los Angeles Lakers and won multiple titles with the Spanish national team, has built a portfolio focused on sports, health and wellness investments. Gasol16 Ventures seeks to contribute not only capital but also commercial networks and expertise gained from Gasol’s athletic career, the league noted.

Liga F, which operates as Spain’s professional women’s first division, has been working to strengthen its commercial position amid growing interest in women’s football globally. The proposal includes elements such as enhancing broadcasting and digital distribution, though specific operational details of the potential partnership were not fully disclosed in initial statements.

If approved, the deal would mark a significant influx of private capital into Spanish women’s football. Liga F positioned the potential investment as one of the most notable in the history of professional women’s sport worldwide, though final terms remain subject to club approval.

Pau Gasol has previously shown interest in women’s sports initiatives, but this would represent his most substantial reported involvement in a league-wide commercial structure. The clubs are expected to review and vote on the proposal at the upcoming assembly.

As of Monday, no additional comments from Gasol or representatives of Gasol16 Ventures were available beyond the league’s announcement. Details of the exact structure of the investment, including equity stakes or governance arrangements, remain unclear pending further discussions and approval.

The outcome of the June 29 assembly will determine whether the landmark proposal proceeds. Liga F did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
