SOMERSET, N.J. — Marco’s Pizza, which describes itself as one of the largest pizza chains in the United States, is expanding into New Jersey after opening its first location in the state earlier this year and outlining broader growth plans for 2026, according to company statements.
The Ohio-based chain opened its inaugural New Jersey restaurant in Somerset in February, marking its entry into the Garden State. The company said the location is part of a wider strategy to expand into new domestic markets as it pursues additional store openings across the United States.
Marco’s Pizza has more than 1,000 locations nationwide and is widely recognized as the world’s third-largest pizza chain by store count among major U.S.-based pizza brands, according to company materials and industry reports. The Somerset restaurant is operated by franchisee Teepu Khan, who said he sees opportunities for further growth in the region.
“As the brand’s first location in the market, the team is excited to introduce Somerset residents to the Marco’s Pizza difference,” the company said in a February announcement.
The New Jersey expansion comes as the chain targets more than 80 new store openings in 2026, following the opening of more than 60 locations in 2025. Company officials said the growth strategy includes expansion into new domestic territories, international markets and nontraditional venues.
Gerardo Flores, chief development officer of Marco’s Pizza, said in a March statement that the company remains focused on “thoughtful expansion” and franchisee support as it grows its footprint.
The pizza industry remains highly competitive, with major chains seeking growth through new markets, franchise development and menu innovation. Industry players have pursued varying strategies in recent years, including international expansion and restructuring efforts.
Marco’s said its 2025 expansion included entering New Jersey and signing a development agreement for New Mexico, moves the company described as part of efforts to broaden its national presence. The company has also highlighted investments in technology, operations and franchise support as it prepares for additional growth.
As of June 2026, the Somerset restaurant remains the chain’s first announced New Jersey location, while the company continues to pursue its broader expansion plans for the year, according to its latest public statements.
