BANDUNG, Indonesia — A woman who survived an alleged domestic violence and unlawful confinement case in West Java is undergoing a series of reconstructive procedures as she continues treatment for severe injuries, Indonesian health officials said this week.
The survivor, identified by authorities as YTR, is receiving care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung following allegations that she was subjected to prolonged abuse by her boyfriend in Bandung Regency. Police have opened an investigation, while medical teams continue efforts to stabilize her condition and address extensive facial injuries, according to officials.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Tuesday that the government would ensure the survivor receives treatment through the reconstruction phase of her recovery.
“We will continue treatment until reconstruction because her face also needs to be reconstructed,” Budi told reporters in South Jakarta, according to the state news agency Antara. He added that the government was committed to providing the best possible care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital.
Authorities have not released detailed medical records, but officials said the survivor suffered serious physical injuries requiring specialized treatment. Hospital staff have been working with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate reconstructive options and manage the long-term recovery process, according to statements from health authorities.
The case has drawn national attention in Indonesia and renewed discussion about support systems for victims of domestic violence. Women's rights advocates have called for stronger protections and expanded access to medical, legal and psychological services for survivors of abuse.
Police investigators in West Java said the suspect was taken into custody after the allegations emerged. Authorities have not publicly disclosed all details of the case because the investigation remains ongoing. Prosecutors and law enforcement officials have said they are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Details of any future court proceedings remain unclear.
Medical experts note that severe facial injuries often require multiple surgeries over an extended period.
