NEW DELHI — India has added 11 international entry points for foreign nationals holding electronic visas, including nine land ports and two airports, taking the total number of designated e-Visa entry points to 88, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The newly notified airports are in Bhopal and Tirupati, while the nine land ports are Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh and Attari Road. The additions expand access to e-Visa holders entering India through land borders as well as airports.
With the latest expansion, the designated network comprises 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports, according to government information reported by state broadcaster DD India and other Indian media.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the move was part of wider efforts to liberalise, streamline and simplify India's visa regime, while facilitating legitimate foreign travel and strengthening technological infrastructure for immigration and security.
The newly designated land crossings include Attari Road in Punjab on the border with Pakistan, Moreh in Manipur on the Myanmar border and Dawki in Meghalaya. Other additions include Agartala in Tripura, Darranga in Assam and several crossings in West Bengal and Odisha.
India introduced its e-Visa facility, together with an Electronic Travel Authorisation, in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries. The government has since expanded the scheme to citizens of 172 countries and 17 visa categories, including tourism, business, medical, student, mountaineering and transit visas.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said about 95% of e-Visa applications are currently processed within 72 hours. It also said roughly 78% of visas issued by India are now electronic, reflecting the broader shift toward digital visa processing.
The government has also expanded e-Visa access through seaports earlier this year. Ministry records said e-Visa facilities became operational at several newly authorised seaports from March, including ports in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
The 11 additional entry points bring the number of designated locations for e-Visa holders to 88, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs and reports published following the notification.
