KUWAIT CITY — Iranian drones struck Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, killing one person and injuring dozens of others, Kuwaiti authorities said.

Kuwait's Defence Ministry said a number of hostile drones targeted a passenger building at the main international airport, causing severe damage to Terminal 1. The country's Civil Aviation Authority released surveillance footage showing the moment the strike hit the terminal, with part of the roof collapsing.

Brig. Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, a spokesman for Kuwait's Defence Ministry, confirmed the attack in a statement. At least 63 people were wounded, including airport workers and passengers, according to the Kuwaiti health ministry.

The victim was identified as an Indian national, India's foreign ministry said in a statement condemning the attack. Flights were briefly suspended before partially resuming at other terminals later in the day.

Kuwait blamed Iran for the strike. Iranian officials denied targeting the civilian airport and claimed the damage resulted from a failed U.S. Patriot missile interceptor during exchanges with American forces. U.S. Central Command rejected that assertion, describing the incident as a "deliberate, calculated and unjustified attack" by Iranian drones.

The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the region and comes as a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States is under strain following recent exchanges.

Kuwait's foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack as "heinous aggression" against its territory and said it damaged diplomatic missions as well. Regional leaders have called for de-escalation to prevent further spillover from the broader conflict.

As of early Thursday, Kuwaiti authorities said operations at the airport were gradually returning to normal, though Terminal 1 remained closed for assessment and repairs. No further attacks were reported in the immediate aftermath.
