BEIRUT — Israel conducted fresh airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, amid ongoing regional tensions and fragile ceasefire efforts, Lebanese state media reported.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said the strikes targeted areas in the Nabatieh governorate, including Nabatieh al-Fawqa and the eastern outskirts of Kfar Tebnit. A drone strike was also reported in the town of Ansariyeh in the Zahrani area.
Details on casualties from the latest strikes remained unclear early Thursday. The attacks came days after separate strikes in the same region killed at least four people, according to Lebanese authorities.
The strikes follow a series of U.S.-brokered ceasefire understandings aimed at de-escalating the broader conflict involving Israel, Hezbollah and related regional developments. Israel has continued operations in southern Lebanon despite announcements of truces.
Lebanese officials have described the ongoing Israeli actions as violations of ceasefire terms. Israel has maintained that its operations target Hezbollah infrastructure and respond to threats.
"Hezbollah must fully withdraw south of the Litani River as per agreements," an Israeli official was quoted saying in recent statements, though specific attribution for the latest strikes was not immediately detailed in public releases.
The 2026 Lebanon war, which escalated in March, has seen repeated cycles of violence despite multiple truce extensions. Casualty figures from the broader conflict have been reported in the thousands by Lebanese health authorities, though independent verification remains challenging in active zones.
International mediators, including the United States and Pakistan, have been involved in efforts to extend ceasefires across fronts involving Iran and other actors. Israel has asserted that certain ceasefire provisions do not fully apply to its operations in Lebanon.
As of Thursday, no comprehensive updates on ground movements or further diplomatic responses were available. The situation in southern Lebanon remains fluid, with both sides accusing each other of violations.
