TEHRAN — Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi delivered a special letter from his country’s leadership to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei during a visit to Tehran this week, as Islamabad continued its mediation efforts in regional ceasefire talks.

Naqvi arrived in the Iranian capital on Sunday and met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to Iranian state media and Pakistani officials. The letter was from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.

“I think this is an important message,” Naqvi said, expressing hope that regional crises could be resolved through diplomacy, Iranian media reported.

Pakistan has played a central mediating role between the United States and Iran following a fragile ceasefire in the 2026 Iran conflict, which began in late February. Islamabad helped broker an initial two-week truce in April and has facilitated subsequent indirect communications and proposals between the parties.

The visit comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the ceasefire and address outstanding issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and other regional matters. Details of the specific content of the letter delivered to Khamenei remained unclear, with officials describing it only in general terms.

Naqvi and Araghchi discussed the latest regional developments and matters related to internal security, Naqvi said on social media. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni also participated in related talks.

Pakistan has shuttled messages and proposals between Washington and Tehran in recent months. Earlier rounds of talks hosted in Islamabad produced a temporary halt in fighting but failed to yield a comprehensive agreement. Both sides have accused the other of shifting positions during negotiations.

Iranian officials have emphasized the need for the lifting of sanctions and other concessions, while the U.S. has pressed for curbs on Iran’s nuclear program and other security guarantees. Pakistan has urged restraint and continued dialogue to prevent renewed escalation.

The ceasefire has held unevenly, with periodic incidents reported in the Gulf region. Pakistani leaders have positioned their country as a neutral facilitator, leveraging ties with both sides.

No immediate breakthrough was announced following Naqvi’s meetings. Further diplomatic contacts between the parties, potentially involving Pakistan, are expected in the coming days as efforts to solidify the ceasefire continue.
