DUBAI — Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said, in retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Iranian targets.

The IRGC said in a statement carried by Iranian state media that it fired ballistic missiles and drones at U.S. military facilities in the two Gulf states, including the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

Kuwait's army said the country came under attack from "hostile" missiles and drones early on Sunday, while Bahrain reported air-raid sirens sounding after the strikes. Both countries said their forces intercepted many of the incoming projectiles.

There were no immediate confirmed reports of significant damage or casualties from the latest barrage, though details remained unclear as the situation developed. Kuwait and Bahrain condemned the attacks as "heinous."

The strikes follow U.S. airstrikes on Iranian coastal sites and infrastructure in and around the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, part of escalating tensions despite a fragile ceasefire. Iran has described its actions as retaliation for those U.S. operations.

U.S. officials confirmed Iran targeted American facilities in the region. President Donald Trump responded on social media, warning of further consequences.

The exchanges risk further straining efforts to end the broader 2026 Iran conflict, which has already drawn in multiple regional actors.

The situation remains fluid, with additional details on impacts and responses still emerging.
