KYIV — Russia and Ukraine exchanged overnight drone strikes targeting infrastructure and military-related sites, with Russian forces launching a large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory while Ukrainian drones hit key facilities in Russian-occupied areas.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 207 strike drones of various types overnight into June 10, primarily targeting regions in the north, south and east of the country. Air defense forces neutralized 181 of them, while 21 drone hits were recorded, according to military officials.
Separately, Ukrainian forces conducted drone strikes on the Russian-occupied port of Mariupol, damaging energy, repair, administrative and logistics infrastructure. Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, in coordination with other units, said the operation significantly limited the port's capacity as a logistics hub for Russian operations.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting Ukrainian drones over multiple regions, including Crimea. Details on the full extent of damage from Ukrainian strikes remained limited in initial reports.
Such exchanges have become a regular feature of the ongoing conflict, now in its fifth year. Both sides have intensified long-range drone operations, targeting energy facilities, ports and military assets. Ukrainian officials have described the strikes on occupied territories as aimed at disrupting Russian logistics, while Russia has characterized its attacks as responses to Ukrainian actions.
A spokesperson for Ukraine's military said operations continued to target critical infrastructure supporting the Russian effort. “These strikes weaken the enemy’s ability to sustain operations,” the spokesperson stated.
Russian authorities have not immediately provided detailed comments on the latest Ukrainian actions in Mariupol. In previous similar incidents, Moscow has reported downing most incoming drones and downplayed damage.
Casualty figures from the latest overnight exchanges were not immediately available. Broader weekly tallies from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier indicated sustained high volumes of Russian drone and missile attacks.
As of Wednesday, both sides continued monitoring and responding to aerial threats. Officials reported no major new developments beyond the overnight activity, with assessments of impacts ongoing.
