BANGKOK — The death toll from a school shooting in Thailand has risen to nine after a 12-year-old girl died from her injuries, police said, as authorities continued investigating the attack at a school outside Bangkok.
The girl died in hospital on Saturday after being critically wounded in Friday's shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, according to police and health authorities. Her death brought the number of victims killed in the attack to eight, excluding the 14-year-old student who authorities said died by suicide, media reports citing officials said.
Five school staff members were among those killed, while the suspect's two grandparents were also found dead at their home, according to authorities cited by multiple reports.
The shooting occurred on Friday at the school in Bang Kruai district, northwest of Bangkok. Police said the suspect was a student at the school and that the investigation into the circumstances of the attack was continuing.
Fourteen people remained hospitalized on Saturday, including seven in critical condition, according to the latest figures reported by authorities.
Police and other authorities have continued gathering evidence and information from witnesses. Details about the motive and the full circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under investigation.
