CUPERTINO, California — Apple Inc. unveiled the next generation of its Apple Intelligence platform and a major overhaul of its Siri assistant, with a strong emphasis on on-device processing and privacy protections, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.
The announcements, made during the keynote at Apple Park, introduced enhanced AI capabilities across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and other operating systems. Features include improved photo editing tools, more intelligent web browsing assistance, and an entirely new version of Siri, now referred to as Siri AI, described as more conversational and context-aware.
Apple highlighted its privacy-first architecture, which relies on on-device processing where possible and Private Cloud Compute for more complex tasks. The company stated that user data is not stored and remains inaccessible to Apple or third parties during cloud processing.
The new capabilities are powered by the latest Apple Foundation Models, developed in collaboration with Google’s Gemini models. These integrate deeply into Apple’s platforms while maintaining user privacy through hardware-level protections.
Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi said during the presentation, “We believe privacy in AI is non-negotiable,” adding that data is used only to execute user requests and that the system can be verified by outside experts.
Additional features include AI-powered tools for Photos and Safari, an Image Playground for generating imagery, and enhancements to parental controls for safer digital experiences for children. The updates also bring performance improvements and design refinements across Apple’s software platforms.
The announcements come as Apple seeks to strengthen its position in the competitive AI market. The company has stressed differentiation through privacy and integration with its hardware ecosystem, in contrast to more cloud-reliant approaches by some competitors.
Developers can access the new tools for testing starting immediately, with consumer availability expected in the fall alongside the public release of iOS 27 and related updates. Specific hardware requirements for full functionality were not detailed in all segments of the keynote.
The Worldwide Developers Conference runs through the week, with technical sessions and further demonstrations planned. Apple did not provide immediate details on pricing or exact rollout timelines for all features beyond the fall window.
Analysts and industry observers are monitoring how the privacy-focused approach will be received by users and regulators. Apple has faced scrutiny in various markets over data practices and AI deployment, though no new regulatory announcements were tied to Monday’s event.
