WASHINGTON — The White House has launched GOLD EAGLE, a cybersecurity clearinghouse designed to coordinate the detection, verification and remediation of software vulnerabilities uncovered by advanced artificial intelligence systems across U.S. government and critical infrastructure networks.
The initiative, announced by the White House on July 14, brings together the White House, Treasury Department, Department of Homeland Security and its Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Department of War, open-source software partners and operators of critical infrastructure. Officials said the system is intended to speed the movement of vulnerability information from discovery to remediation.
GOLD EAGLE was established under President Donald Trump's June 2 executive order on artificial intelligence innovation and security. The order directed federal agencies to strengthen cybersecurity and expand cooperation with private-sector developers and operators as advanced AI capabilities create new security risks.
The clearinghouse is intended to reduce duplicated vulnerability scanning, coordinate verification of reported flaws and provide defenders with prioritized information about threats and available remediation measures, according to the White House.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the Treasury Department is working hand in hand with the private sector to safeguard our financial institutions, close vulnerabilities, and protect the integrity of the U.S. financial system,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in the White House announcement.
The administration said GOLD EAGLE had already begun receiving and prioritizing cybersecurity vulnerabilities from multiple industries and sectors. It said the initiative would use frontier AI capabilities to help identify vulnerabilities and accelerate coordinated responses across government and private networks.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth described the initiative as a new approach to cyber defense, while Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the government would continue working with industry to strengthen software and network security. National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross said open-source developers and other private-sector innovators were involved in building the system.
The administration's move comes as increasingly capable AI systems are being used to identify software weaknesses, raising concerns that the same technologies could also enable attackers to discover exploitable flaws more rapidly. GOLD EAGLE seeks to use those capabilities defensively by coordinating findings and remediation rather than leaving organizations to conduct overlapping assessments independently.
The White House has not announced a public timetable for expanding the clearinghouse beyond its initial participating organizations. As of Aug. 9, officials say GOLD EAGLE is operational and processing vulnerability information across industries and sectors.
