MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google has begun rolling out a redesigned Gemini overlay experience for Pixel Watch devices, bringing a new visual interface for the company’s artificial intelligence assistant on compatible smartwatches, according to user reports and Google’s broader Gemini updates for Wear OS.
The updated overlay changes how Gemini appears when activated on Pixel Watch, replacing the previous assistant presentation with a more integrated interface designed for the smartwatch display. The rollout appears to be gradual, with availability varying among users and devices, according to reports from Pixel Watch owners.
Google has not published a separate announcement detailing the new overlay design, rollout schedule, or full list of supported Pixel Watch models. The company previously introduced Gemini support for Wear OS watches, allowing users to access the assistant through voice activation, the side button, or the Gemini app icon on compatible devices.
The Gemini update follows Google’s broader effort to expand artificial intelligence features across its hardware ecosystem. The company said earlier in 2026 that Gemini Intelligence features would arrive on selected devices, including watches, as part of a wider expansion beyond smartphones.
Google’s smartwatch software platform, Wear OS, has also received updates aimed at improving information access and device integration. Google said Wear OS 7 introduced features such as glanceable information tools and improved connections with other devices, while noting that selected devices would receive additional Gemini Intelligence capabilities later.
The latest overlay update comes after Google added other artificial intelligence-powered features to Pixel Watch devices, including Gemini-based assistant functionality and gesture controls. In a December 2025 update, Google said Pixel Watch users could use AI-powered gestures and improved Smart Replies to interact with notifications, alarms, calls and messages.
The rollout timing also coincides with increased attention on Google’s upcoming hardware announcements, including expected Pixel device updates. Google has scheduled its annual Made by Google event for Aug. 12, 2026, where it is expected to discuss new hardware and software developments.
Google has not confirmed whether the new Gemini overlay will expand to all Pixel Watch models or other Wear OS devices. The company’s latest confirmed position is that Gemini features are continuing to roll out across supported devices as part of its broader artificial intelligence integration strategy.
