MENLO PARK, California — Meta Platforms Inc. on Wednesday began rolling out paid subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as the company expands premium features and tests new artificial intelligence offerings.

The social media giant is introducing “Plus” tiers for its flagship apps globally, marking a further push into subscription revenue beyond its core advertising business. Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus are priced at $3.99 per month each, while WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 per month, according to company statements and multiple reports.

The subscriptions offer features such as enhanced profile customization, additional story insights, messaging personalization and other premium tools, Meta said. A company spokeswoman confirmed the rollout.

Meta is also testing AI-focused subscription plans under the “Meta One” brand. The company will begin tests of two tiers — Meta One Plus at $7.99 per month and Meta One Premium at $19.99 per month — providing greater computing capacity for complex queries, deeper reasoning capabilities and expanded image and video generation features in Meta AI.

Testing of the AI plans will initially take place in select markets including Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia, officials said. Additional tests for creator and business subscriptions are planned in other countries.

Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, announced the plans in a video posted to Instagram. “We’re also testing new subscription plans that offer premium features for those who want to unlock more from our apps and AI glasses,” Gleit said.

The move comes as Meta continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence across its platforms. The company has maintained a free tier for Meta AI while introducing paid options for users seeking higher usage limits and advanced capabilities.

Details on the exact number of subscribers or projected revenue from the new plans remain unclear. Meta did not immediately respond to requests for additional comment on rollout timelines beyond the initial global launch for the app-specific Plus plans.

The subscriptions represent Meta’s latest effort to diversify its revenue streams as it competes in the rapidly evolving AI sector. The company’s stock rose following the announcement, according to market reports.

As of Tuesday, the new consumer subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were being rolled out to users worldwide, Meta said. Further details on availability and features in specific regions are expected in the coming weeks.
